15-151 — Math Foundations for Computer Science
Introductory discrete math class for computer science and advanced math majors.
Overview
The overarching goal is to learn how to reason logically from a set of accepted premises and derive the resulting truths, as well as detect and expose false statements. Along the way, we’re introduced to mathematical objects like numbers, sets, and functions, and develop the ability to prove things about them using techniques like induction. Furthermore, we study counting processes, how to compare infinite sets, basic number theory, and elementary probability.
While the course is split into 15-151 (CS majors) and 21-128 (Math majors), the material and staff are the same. Recently, the math department has been paying TAs a bit more though, so consider teaching a 21-128 recitation if you want an extra 50 cents per hour.
